Hi, I’m Dustin — a metal detectorist from West Michigan with a passion for uncovering the stories buried just beneath our feet.
I started Dusty Detects to share my discoveries, preserve local history, and connect with landowners who want to see what traces of the past still rest on their land. To me, every hunt is a chance to bring forgotten history back to life — to hold something in my hand that hasn’t been seen or touched in a hundred years, and to imagine the moment it was lost.
Metal detecting isn’t just about the objects I find. It’s about the people behind them — the farmers, soldiers, families, and travelers who helped shape the ground we walk on today. Whether it’s an old coin, a relic from a long-gone homestead, or a lost ring with someone’s initials, every discovery tells a story worth remembering.
My Mission
My mission is to uncover pieces of the past responsibly, preserve them for future generations, and reunite people with items that carry personal or historical meaning. Each signal I dig is a small piece of a larger puzzle — a chance to connect today’s world with the one that came before it.
I follow respectful detecting practices and work closely with property owners, treating every site as a partnership built on trust. I leave the land exactly as I found it, share my finds honestly, and do my best to return sentimental items whenever possible.
At its heart, this mission is about exploring with purpose, honoring the stories hidden in the soil, and sharing the excitement of discovery with those who care about the past as much as I do.
Core Values
Metal detecting is built on respect, integrity, and preservation. Every property, person, and piece of history deserves care. I always ask permission, leave no trace, and keep my word. My goal isn’t only to uncover history but to protect and document it so others can learn from it in the future.
I approach each hunt with curiosity and appreciation, knowing that any signal could lead to something meaningful — a glimpse into a life, a moment in time, or a long-lost treasure that brings joy to someone today. I value the relationships this hobby creates, the trust it depends on, and the privilege it is to explore another person’s land.
Above all, I’m grateful for every opportunity to dig into history, preserve it, and share its stories one find at a time.
